Dear Parents & Carers of Year 10 students,
Your daughter has just finished her Regular Assessment Tests(RATS) & will be looking forward to breaking up for the winter break. Students will be given their Autumn Short Report next week but you can have an early preview of this on e-portal.
We finish school at 12.30pm on Thursday 20 December and start the Spring Term on Monday 7 January at 10.50am. Another important date for your diary is the Year 10 Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 6th March.
Year 10 have worked hard this term completing coursework and homework as well as controlled assessments. It has been the most pressurising time so far for them and they have risen to the challenge. Many Year 10 students, approximately half the year group , will be using some of their holiday time preparing for their Biology GCSE examination which is on Wednesday 9th January 2013.
During tutor time this week, we will be focussing on Biology revision and Active Revision Strategies in general. In addition to this, Tutors will be helping students who have Biology GCSE in January to organise their holiday time, by helping them make a revision timetable for the Christmas holiday. This timetable will guide students to thoroughly prepare for their public examination as well as being able to make time to relax & have fun with their friends and family.
I hope that you all get the opportunity to have a relaxing break and wish you a Happy New Year.
Dear Year 10 students and parents,
This week all students at Sydenham school will be completing end of term tests in many of their subjects. Teachers will use the results of the test along with the classwork and homework completed in the last few weeks to decide on a students’ currently working at grade(CWAG).
During the week beginning 17 December you will recieve your daughter’s end of term Progress Report for Autumn 2012, it will not only inform you of her currently working at grade but also how hard she has been working (effort grade) in each of her subjects. Please note some subjects reported effort and currently working at grades at the end of October , this is available to parents and students on e-portal.
Dear Parents, Carers and Year 10 students,
You can now access students’ most recent currently working at grades and effort grades in a number of subjects on E-portal. Please have a look . As you know we normally update our student assessments and effort grades on E-portal to parents & students once a term, three times an academic year. We are now reporting to students and parents with currently working at grades and effort grades six times a year, once every half term. However, subjects which appear just once a week on the timetable will continue to feed back every term inorder to give students enough time to reach their next target sub level.
Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org if you need information about accessing e-portal, including finding out your individual e-portal password if you do not have one or you have lost it.
A reminder that the Work Experience Parents’ evening for Year 10 students and their parents takes place in the Main School Hall, this Thursday 15th November , starting at 6pm and finishing at approximately 7pm.. I look forward to see you then,
Dear Parents, Carers & Year 10 students
One of the important events for Year 10 is the work experience fortnight that takes place from Monday 24th June till Friday 5th July inclusive.
To support and guide Year 10 students and their parents with preparing and organising work experience we would like to invite parents and Year 10 students to an evening event on Thursday 15th November. The school’s Careers and Enterprise coordinator Jene Kerr , will be sending you a letter with more details nearer the time. Your daughter will be having an extended assembly this Thursday 18th October (students only) when she will be introduced to the work experience programme.
Another very important date for your calendar is Wednesday 7th March, the Year 10 Parents’ Evening.
I will be updating my blog before half term to let you know when your daughter’s updated Currently Working at Grades(CWAG) will be available to be viewed on e-portal .
Welcome everybody to our Year 10 Blog.
Generally I will be updating the Blog every four weeks and more often as required. We have had a great start to the year with many teachers reporting how Year 10 have made an enthusiastic and positive start to the year.
The first Regular Assessment Tests(RAT 1) will start the week beginning 19th October . To support our students with this , Year 10 will be focussing on different Active Revision techniques during Tutorial time for the next fortnight. This will help them improve their skills in this area as well guiding them into being fully prepared and confident for thier first experience of answering GCSE questions in all their subjects. The tutors have also been supporting the students by helping them create a homework schedule to help Year 10 students with their increased homework requirements. In addition to this the Prefects have been supporting Year 10 by giving them invaluable guidance and advice about how to cope with the considerable increase in workload for Year 10 students.
Thank you for attending the Learning Review Day on 14 September I hope you are enjoying the booklet we made avcailable to you called, “GCSE – 101 tips for parents” .
My next Blog will be on Monday 8th October.
